A school district outside of Fort Worth is shutting down their campus due to a surge in flu cases, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Reportedly, Godley ISD closed its doors Wednesday after the district reported over 650 students—roughly 25% of its enrollment—were absent Tuesday. More students began to go home early sick throughout the day, and sixty teachers were absent.

The district said they would be using the time to clean and sanitize the school.

According to the most current numbers available from the DSHS for the week of January 12–18, 34% of Texans tested positive. Up to this point, the seasonal rate has risen significantly to 12.9%.

Compared to the 25% nationwide rate reported by the CDC the same week, the positive rate in the Lone Star State is significantly higher.
