A congressional hearing on Thursday, November 8, 2017, about sexual harassment on the job, revealed that a federal employee not only experienced sexual harassment but that a former boss brought and displayed a whip to, “’motivate’ the black employees.”

Raw Story reports that Gloria Lett of the Office of House Employment Counsel explained to the House Administration committee that she experienced racial discrimination.

Lett was before the committee to testify about sexual harassment saying, “sexual harassment is a form of unlawful discrimination, just like discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, and disability.”

“On a personal note, like most women in this country, I have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace,” explained Lett. “It occurred during the early part of my employment and my way of dealing with it was to leave a job that I liked.”

She disclosed the details of the incident by saying, “As a woman of color, I have experienced race discrimination in the workplace.” She continued, “I worked for a private company where a white manager brought in a whip, which he prominently displayed in his office. And when questioned about it, he said he wanted to – quote-unquote – motivate the black employees.”
