The American Black Film Festival Honors is an award show that honors the work of influential Black people in Hollywood. Founder of the ABFF Jeff Friday and comedian Cedric The Entertainer are dedicated to recognizing and honoring the work of Black people.
“We trying to make stuff happen out here. We have the ABFF in Miami but you know we couldn’t just settle with that,” explained Friday. “We had to bring something else to the table. So we have the ABBF honors now.”
The awards ceremony came about after Friday noticed a lack of Black representation at various film festivals and award shows.
“I went to Sundance 22 years ago and I didn’t see enough Black people there so we created the American Black Film Festival in Miami,” expressed Friday. “And then I went to one of the other shows a couple of years ago out here in L.A. that honors the current stars and I didn’t see enough Black representation there. Now we have our own Black Golden Globes.”
Cedric The Entertainer goes way back with Friday and the ABFF. He will have the honor of hosting this amazing event.
“We go back you know the ABFF you know started out and you know was one of the first kind of recognitions of Black movies and the work that we do in Hollywood,” explained Cedric.
