Every year the Men Of Color Summit meets to empower young African-American and Hispanic men to meet their goals and dreams. The summit invites community builders, government officials, educators and business professionals to inspire these young men. Lee Gill has hosted the event and is excited about the turnout this year.
“Well, frankly when we looked at some of the demographic numbers of graduations of men of color we realized they were having more challenges across the board graduating from high school as well as graduating from college,” explained Gill. “So to us it became a no-brainer. How do we help support this talent?”
Being able to see young men get inspired by this event reminds Gill of what it felt like to be inpired at that age.
“When you see those young men walking through the hallways coming out of the break out sessions with awe,” explained Gill. It reminded him of, “when someone poured into our life and that light bulb went off and we thought wow I can do this.”
