It’s day 5 and I’ve been featuring ‘The 12 Days of Christmas Cookies.”  It’s just the perfect way to get into the holiday making mood. I’m sharing 12 of my favorite Christmas Cookie recipes that I have made with my son and now my grandson over the years. The cookies I make the most is an ‘Old Fashion Sugar Cookies.’ I love making big batches of Sugar cookies dough, so there’s always cookie dough in the freezer. And with the endless number of Christmas Cookies cutters I have, sometimes I just want a soft Sugar Cookie to remember me of baking with my mother.  Happy baking this holiday and enjoy me ‘Old Fashion Sugar Cookies’ recipe.

Chewy Sugar Cookies

2¾ cup flour

1 tsp. baking soda

½ tsp. salt

1 ¼ cups butter, that’s 12 tablespoons

2 eggs

2 cups sugar

1 tbsp. vanilla

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the margarine and 2 cups sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then the vanilla. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until just blended. Roll the dough into walnut sized balls and roll the balls in remaining 1/4 cup of sugar. Place cookies 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets and flatten slightly.
  3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until lightly browned at the edges. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
