Back in 2016, NFL players began to kneel during the national anthem. Since then, many performers have refused to take part in NFL festivities due to what seems to be the blackballing of Colin Kaepernick, who started the protests. Not only has Gladys Knight has agreed to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl this year in Atlanta, but she also has said the Kaepernick should have separated the anthem from the protest. Knight said, “It is unfortunate that our National Anthem has been dragged into this debate when the distinctive senses of the National Anthem and fighting for justice should each stand alone”. Knight believes by doing this performance on this particular platform it will help unite America. Since then, Knight has received some backlash from the black community. Should she have turned down the offer to sing or is she right about uniting the nation. What are your thoughts?
