In 2009, the NAACP Image Awards definitely got it right when they gave Jennifer Hudson the award for Outstanding New Artist. She also graced the stage to perform alongside Seal. At that time, Hudson had just come off of a breakthrough year, having nabbed her first Oscar for her work in Dreamgirls and also being nominated for a Grammy. The Image Awards knew she’d continue to be something special, even 10 years later.
