The Dallas Wings picked up 3 players in the draft tonight. Dallas had 5th and 9th picks for round 1 and 33rd pick in round 3.

First up for the team is Jacy Sheldon. Sheldon is a shooting guard from Ohio State. The former buckeye had a shooting average of 15.8 points per game throughout her college career. She is the first player from Ohio to be selected for the Wings and the first player since 2018 to be chosen in the first round.

For the 9th pick, the Wings welcome Carla Leite all the way from France! Another shooting guard but this time from Tarbes GB where she was one of the leaders for assists. She also averaged 15.8 points per game in her collegiate career.

Lastly, in the third round the Wings will pick up one more shooting guard for the 33rd pick tonight.  Ashely Owusu is from Penn State and averages around 13.8 points per game. Owusu is the first from Penn state to be selected in the past 10 years.

Dallas wings had a successful season in 2023 and with the new editions we are wishing them another amazing season. Congratulations to the newest wings!

Special shout out to the no. 1 pick for the 2024 WNBA Draft Caitlin Clark for being picked up by the Indiana Fever. This draft class was a special one with players that played a big part in the growth of women’s basketball like Angel Reese, Rickea Jackson, and Aaliyah Edwards.

Now let’s get into these contracts!

Despite the significant growth of viewing of women’s sports over the past 2 years, these new rookie salaries are still nowhere near the salary of their male counterparts. For the 2023 NBA draft, No. 1 pick, Victor Wembanyama signed a 4-year contract for $55.2 million. Caitlin Clark’s 4-year contract with Indiana Fever is only $338,000. Despite her being regarded as one of the greatest collegiate players of all time and securing $3.4 million in NIL deals, we are still on the come up for official salaries for women.
