Mass Emergency Drill Underway In North Texas

A major emergency drill is underway across North Texas—a full-scale simulation of terror attacks and mass casualty events featuring dozens of local agencies.
The training center is located in Plano, Texas, and is being utilized by fire departments and medical services, where they are conducting emergency response exercises simulating terrorist attacks and mass casualty events. Police dispatches, hospitals, and school districts are all involved in this practice. These practices are taking place in multiple cities across the metroplex. Officials in Plano say they had several jurisdictions in one place and took advantage of making sure that safety plans among all law enforcement agencies are in check.
This is a full-scale exercise, practicing inner agency communication, making sure they are practicing various techniques and training exercises not necessarily associated with anything in particular. Still, they’ve never done anything like this at this large a capacity or scale, so it’s great for a place like plano where they don’t often work hand and hand together and practice various techniques, use different tools and resources that are at both of their disposals to train together and practice hands on skills that they wouldn’t normally get to practice.
The next simulation will happen.
Wednesday, October 29, from 10 am- 3 pm at Frederick P. Herring Rec Center, 191 Civic Circle, Lewisville
If you see a law enforcement presence at this location, the city says do not be alarmed, they are just running safety drills.
This last simulation should conclude their training.
