The lawsuit targets the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Office of Management and Budget, demanding they release funding for November SNAP benefits. More than 1.4 million North Carolinians rely on the program, which faces disruption after the USDA announced it would not use $6 billion in contingency funds to cover November benefits.
Jackson said the USDA’s decision violates the law and could have severe consequences for vulnerable residents. While October benefits remain unaffected, the state’s Health and Human Services Department confirmed November payments will likely be delayed.
