Essence honored Supa Dupa Fly producer Missy Elliott for her 20+ years in music for their ‘Black Women in Music’ award. Janet Jackson was there to give Missy her accolades. Janet handed Missy her trophy by praising her talent as singer, songwriter, rapper and producer with her “boldness and courage, she made her mark,” Janet told the crowd. Missy’s whose hits include “Work It” ”Get Ur Freak On” and “One Minute Man” started to cry during Janet’s tribute. The two shared a long embrace when Missy went on stage for her “Visionary” award from Essence at the magazine’s annual per-Grammy event celebrating black women artists.”That was a surprise,” an overwhelmed and teary Missy said.
