While accepting the Women In Film Emerging Entrepreneur Award. Issa Rae who is known for her witty one-liners. Issa took to the stage, telling the crowd that when creating her speech, she was inspired by hip hop from the 90’s. “As women we tend to downplay ourselves. We tend to dim our light and we’re kind of conditioned socially to be humble,’ she went on to tell the crowd mostly of women. ‘And I grew up in the age of hip hop and none of my favorite artists were humble,” Issa explained. “So in writing my speech, I decided to embrace this moment in honor of them,” (jokingly, of course).
