With so many ‘Brown Skin Girl‘ posting their videos loving their brown skin. Is Beyoncé’s new song ‘Brown Skin Girl’ controversial because of its inclusion of brown skin beauty? With #BrownSkinGirl and #BrownSkinGirlChallenge hitting Twitter, tags like #WhiteSkinGirlChallenge have popped up. Celebrating one kind of beauty does not means we’re denigrating another type of beauty.
From one Brown Skin Girl, I see the value of other little brown girls seeing the darkness of their skin as a beautiful thing. Even now with more skin tone being celebrated, “Brown Skin Girl’ reminds all of us, our beauty comes in every shades.
We know that representation matters, that it is important for young girls and women to not only see women that look like them succeed, but also to hear that they have worth and value. And everyday we should celebrate our brown skin.
