A Hollywood producer suggested that’ Pretty Woman’ Julia Roberts should play Harriet Tubman according to screenwriter Gregory Allen Howard. The suggestion was made back in 1994 and when someone pointed out that Julia couldn’t be Harriet, the executive responded by saying “It was so long ago. No one is going to know the difference.” For over 25 years, Howard said he was unable to make the historical drama about the former slave turned freedom fighter. When ’12 Years A Slave’ became a hit and did a couple hundred million dollars worldwide and then ‘Black Panther’ blow the door open for ‘Harriet’ to be made with the changing climate in Hollywood.
