Superheroes to Welcome Children to Their New Families At Dallas CASA’s National Adoption Day Event

What:

As many as 100 children will be welcomed by costumed superheroes into their new forever families at National Adoption Day, a special day each year when Dallas County judges and officials donate their time on a Saturday to expedite adoptions for children in foster care. Three courtrooms will simultaneously be finalizing adoptions, with superheroes holding the courtroom doors open for children as they enter the courtroom. The hallways of the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center will be full of celebratory families, Child Protective Services caseworkers, attorneys and Dallas CASA volunteers. Professional photographers will be on hand to snap the first official family portraits.

Who:

The event has been hosted by Dallas CASA since 2010, with Dallas CASA’s Children’s Council coordinating activities and volunteers for the day. This year’s event chair is Madison White. District court judges Mary Brown, Jim Jordan and Ken Molberg will preside over the adoptions. Officials from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and the Dallas County Juvenile District Court will also be attendance.

When:

Adoptions begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017; last adoption should be done by noon.

Where:

3rd floor of the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center, 2600 Lone Star Drive, Dallas, TX 75212

Why:

All children have the right to be safe. Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a nonprofit organization that trains and supervises volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected Dallas County children living in protective care. Last year, more than 4,600 Dallas-area children were in the protective care of the state because it wasn’t safe for them at home. Sadly, one out of four of these children did not have CASA volunteer advocates to speak for them. CASA volunteers gather information to help judges decide where these children can safely and permanently live. For many abused children a CASA volunteer is the only constant adult during a frightening, uncertain time. CASA volunteers can make an immediate and critical difference in the lives of abused children. Dallas CASA hopes to become the largest nonprofit CASA program in the country to serve all abused children in protective care.
