Less than four ounces of marijuana will no longer be considered illegal, according to Dallas voters. The Dallas Police Department has decriminalized the substance as a result of Proposition R, which alters the municipal charter, making its enforcement a top priority.
Because so many people signed Dallas Action’s Dallas Freedom Act petition, the city council was forced by law to put the issue on the ballot.
With approximately 66% of the vote, the proposition was approved.
The coalition has had similar successful efforts to change the laws about marijuana in Austin, San Marcos, Killeen, and Denton, Texas.
However, Ken Paxton, the attorney general of Texas, has sued towns like Denton and Austin for similar actions, saying they are against Texas law.
